Interview with Yumi Marketplace - Fully on chain

We interviewed Melissa at Yumi, a burgeoning NFT Marketplace that boasts a large team of highly competent professionals based in Europe and Asia

1. Please tell us about you, your name, your position in the project, your credentials, etc., so that we can introduce you.
Melissa Song, Business Development and Marketing for Yumi NFT Marketplace.

2. Of all the platforms you could have chosen, why did you decide to build on the Internet Computer?
That's a very common question people ask us. At this moment, more than 90% of NFT transactions are on Ethereum blockchains. However, we believe that the Internet Computer is very different from other blockchains, it has the potential to bring massive adoption into Web 3.

It helps to remove entry barriers and bridge the gap between the current web 2 world to web 3 due to low storage costs and advanced cryptography. We believe this is the next generation of blockchain.

It's important to remind ourselves not only to look at the established crypto communities. Although most transactions are on Ethereum, this is only talking about existing crypto communities.
How about the rest of the world? People haven't adopted crypto or don't know about Web 3? We believe that if you look at the rest of the world, the potential is huge for the Internet Computer and other blockchains to on board mass adoption.

3. How long has your company been established?
Yumi was founded at the end of 2021, and our platform has been live since March 2022, it has been established for 7 months now.

4. What makes your company marketable, and what will ensure its long-term success?
Firstly: Yumi is reputable for the service we provide, our mission is not only to bring quality collections to the existing collectors but also to create a platform that brings traditional artists and collectors into the world of NFTs. Therefore when projects and creators talk to us, they realize that we are not just another NFT marketplace, but we also work with them, build long-term relationships and provide support to enable them to be successful.

Secondly, We truly believe NFTs will have more use cases in the future, not just as digital art or collectible. In the era of web 3, everything people use, and trade could be NFTs.  We believe the Metaverse is the next generation of human communication and collaboration, therefore we also want to be the gateway to the metaverse.

5. What challenges have you faced while building your company?

We are in a crypto winter, NFT transaction volume has dropped 99% from its peak. For NFT marketplaces, activities from both creators and collectors are more considered and cautious.  It is a challenge, but also an opportunity because it gives us time to explore and talk to better creators, who still believe in NFTs, and are willing to take their time to build their business for long-term success.

6. What overall vision do you have? Do you have a roadmap? If so, what does it involve?

We aim high. We want Yumi to be one of the top NFT marketplaces regardless of blockchain in terms of trading volume and quality of the collections.

There are many upcoming exciting collaborations and announcements from Yumi we cannot wait to share with you.  But one of the key developments is going to be multi-chain.
We understand that there are different communities on different blockchains, therefore it's very normal that creators would like to reach out to more than just 1 community. Therefore we will be supporting multi-chain to give creators freedom to launch on multi-chain but in one platform.

7. What advantages do you believe you have over other competitors?
First is our customer service. Our team is spread out around the globe, and we provide support to creators and collectors to enable them to be successful.

Secondly is our strategic partnership, one of our biggest strategic partners is Shiku Metaverse. Yumi will be integrated with Shiku for all the NFT transaction that happens on Shiku. Therefore you will soon be able to see a wide range of NFTs available on Yumi to enable you to enjoy your exploration in the Metaverse.

8. Tell us about the team

Yumi has a team of around 20 people at this moment. We are represented globally.

9. What other projects building on the Internet Computer are you most excited about?

It will have to be Shiku Metaverse. We cannot wait for Shiku to go on live and for the partnership with Shiku to expand the use case of NFTs and create real value in the Metaverse. We also think InfinitySwap is positioned to leverage Internet Computer tech to bring the next generation of DeFi to users, so this potential is of course, immense.

10.  Do you have any plans to collaborate or partner with other projects building on the Internet Computer?

Definitely, As an NFT Marketplace, we are open and welcoming to any collaboration opportunities. Of course, we already have a fantastic relationship with InfinitySwap.

11. Do you have any token sales planned for the future? If so, when? Can you give details?

At this moment we reward our early and loyal customers through Yumi credits. And in terms of the token plan, we will keep our community updated. Please continue to follow Yumi.

12. What are your short and long-term achievements and targets?

We want to become the No1 NFT marketplace, first on the Internet Computer, and then beyond into the entire blockchain space.

13. Please provide all your social media handles and websites:

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.

We wish our incredible partner Yumi every success moving forward and are extremely optimistic about their chances, having worked closer with them than any other project.
