  • Launch of "Bitcoin Thunderbolt": The Bitcoin Thunderbolt upgrade drastically boosted network performance—delivering transaction speeds up to 2000× faster than the traditional Bitcoin network. With support for native stablecoin settlement, it saw massive early traction: over 4 million transactions processed and nearly 270,000 users onboarded within days of launch.
  • Network Difficulty and the “Zetahash” Era: Bitcoin’s network difficulty reached a historic peak, marking the start of the so-called “zetahash” era, where global hashpower hit unprecedented levels. Despite the milestone, miners are facing financial pressure due to rising operational costs and reduced fee income, squeezing profitability across the industry.

  • FATF Urges International Crypto Regulation: The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) warned that only 40 of 138 jurisdictions have met its crypto standards as of April 2025. The report emphasized regulatory gaps amid escalating illicit activity including the $1.5 billion ByBit hack attributed to North Korea.
  • Bitcoin Solaris (BTC‑S) Mobile Mining Presale: The presale for Bitcoin Solaris (BTC‑S), a new mobile mining ecosystem, surpassed $5 million by June 28, highlighting increasing interest in accessible, smartphone-based crypto participation.

  • ICP HUB and DFINITY Launch Hackathon: The DFINITY Foundation, in collaboration with several ICP HUBs, kicked off a global 4‑month hackathon to encourage builders to create innovative Internet Computer applications—spanning areas like DeFi, AI, digital identity and gaming.
